What are “Invisible Illnesses”?
By Gloria Gilbčre, N.D., D.A.Hom., Ph.D.
Invisible
illnesses are disorders of multiple body
systems that are not necessarily visible to
the human eye, or evident in conventional
medical testing.
Most individuals who have acquired invisible
illnesses are looked upon as chronic
complainers either because testing shows
“everything is within normal range” or there
is no conventional explanation for their
maladies. These individuals are viewed with
suspicion, hostility and anger in a modern
world and consciousness which seeks
double-blind studies, and then prescription
drugs for symptom-care, (which eventually
becomes drug-management) – all the while not
attempting to get to the root cause of the
disorder.
What is grossly overlooked is the importance
of detoxifying and supporting the internal
organs of the liver, kidneys, intestines
(large and small), and the lymphatic system
and reducing their overall toxic load which
has developed as a consequence of poor
dietary choices including environmental
toxins, and medications (prescription and
over-the-counter, to name a few. Only when
the detoxification of these organs is
addressed can there be true, lasting
reversal of symptoms, and a return to a
natural equilibrium of the body systems. As
expressed by the late Dr. Hazel Parcells,
“Cleanse the body and mind, give it the
right building materials and nature will
heal and rebuild.”
What Conditions are Considered “Invisible
Illnesses”? Invisible illnesses are those commonly known
as, and not limited to:
- Fibromyalgia / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /
Myofascial Pain Syndrome
- Chronic Fatigue
- Lupus
- Migraine headaches
- Allergic / Inflammatory Arthritis
- Leaky Gut Syndrome / Irritable Bowel / Colon
Disorders
- Chemically Induced Immune System Disorders
- Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS)
- Multiple Allergic Response Syndromes (MARS)
- Prescription Drug Withdrawal
Syndrome
Individual Uniqueness Because individuals are biochemically
different, there are tremendous variations
in the responses experienced to chemical
allergens – both those we're exposed to
externally (Exotoxins) and those our body
creates (Endotoxins). When exposed to
chemicals, for instance, no two people will
exhibit the same reactions – their reactions
will coincide with their individual
tolerance depending on the overall toxic
load of the body at the time of exposure.
Most victims are treated with conventional
drugs for digestive disorders, allergies,
anxiety/panic, brain-fog, and allergic
reactions – only to be given more drugs when
additional sensitivities or allergies
develop – a vicious cycle of destruction.
Multiple Allergic Response Syndromes (MARS™) When people become sensitized to chemicals
because of their body exceeding its capacity
to deal with, or neutralize, the toxic load,
they react at levels not detectable by
others. Life is no longer ordinary; even
through visibly they appear “normal”.
MARS™ demands that victims learn to cope
with multiple losses: a safe home, career,
hobbies, public access to events and places,
transportation, tolerance to foods and
personal care products, and the loss of a
social life – both in and out of their home.
The most profound losses are those
experienced with loved ones who want to
understand the invisible disorders, yet in
their frustration and lack of understanding,
draw away instead of being supportive or
taking the time to learn about the disorder
as well as having an open mind to non-drug
options.
As a recovered victim of a life-threatening
disorder known as leaky gut syndrome and the
subsequent multiple allergic responses that
forced me to be homebound for several
months, I know only too well what it takes
to achieve wellness. Additionally, after
guiding thousands of clients to wellness, I
can assure you that if you adhere to a “3-D”
program (determination, detoxification and
discipline), you can recover, Naturally.
